It is a common complaint by soooo many Vancouver based bands and artists....
The bands are underpaid for their performances. Fueled by no promotion, the bands are now often required to do their own advertising and selling of tickets. So now, not only do the bands/artists have to invest in their equipment, rehearsal spaces, recordings, merch, transportation and time - they are also required to sell tickets and act as promoters....
Many of the local live venues have closed because they don't make enough money to survive with live music. If only the media would work hard in conjunction with these venues - live music could strive in the Vancouver local scene.
This town has soooo much talent! They just need a place to play and to make a decent amount of money so they can keep creating great music.
Please support your local talent! Buy their merch, CD's/Download cards and most imporantly...Go to their shows! You might enjoy yourself ;-)
